**IMPORTANT** You need to have a Windows OS installed, that means no MAC or Linux computers, only Microsoft Windows ME/2000/XP
First off, you need to get rid of Spyware if you got it (which you do, everyone with an internet connection will...). Spyware is those adds that pop up on your computer that you get when you aren't surfing. They are also search bars you didn't install... Spyware is a program or file that piggybacks in, similar to a virus, but doesn't destroy your computer. Instead, it just installs a cpu guzzling program.
Here are two spyware removers you should use together to eliminate spyware:

Next up you might want to improve your computer's performance. Well, the registry can mess itself up constantly, so you need to fix that...Along with some other tweaks, there is a nice registry repair program that comes bundled with Tuneup Utilities 2004.
NOTE- This program does not overclock your computer, it will finetune certain options so they will be activated to fit your PC. Try not to enable stuff you don't know what it does, try to get someone knowledgable in PC's to help you out with this. You can still use the registry repair and optimizer without help though.

Lastly you will want to surf the web quickly right? Maybe get through deviantART faster? You need a new browser then. It's called "MyIE2." This browser is an extended version of Internet Explorer, so it uses the same engine, but it has a few extra features (such as as built in pop-up blocker and tabbed browsing)

Ok that is all folks. I use these programs to keep my computer quick and reliable. On top of this you will want a reliable antivirus...I suggest Norton Antivirus.
Oh yeah, Spyware Doctor v2.1 and Tuneup Utilities 2004 are trial software, meaning they will expire in a month. If you like those two programs and what they have done for your computer, GO BUY THEM!!
ps: I'm not responsible if you mess up your computer while using these programs (you shouldn't do it anyways, these are all really safe programs).
Devious Comments
and Also you can use Registry Mechanic 3 for repair of registry, even better than tuneup, but that one costs money as well...
